What makes the game of golf so great is the fact that you never know what will happen next.  One day the putter is on fire and the irons are terrible, the next day you can't make a putt yet the irons are covering the pins. One day you're in the fairway, the next you're in the woods.  I'm not talking about woods' woods, I'm talking railroad ties.  It's as if golf course architects these days are all evil.  What ever happened to good old sand traps and water hazards?  Now there's railroad ties!!  When your ball comes to rest on a railroad tie, follow these 5 easy steps:

  • Quickly change your soft spikes to steel spikes to provide adequate gription.
  • Select a club that has bounce, preferably a wedge or sand wedge.
  • Because of the down slope, position the ball towards the back of your stance.
  • Chop down on the ball as to get the ball quickly up in the air.
  • Allow for plenty of spin because of the firm timber surface.
